FYI-- This is mainly for my journaling purposes, but you are more than welcome to read it!!
About a month ago, Jinettie got most of her clothes bagged up, and put away. Jinettie is very very picky on what she wears. Usually not matching, the old grungie t-shirt, and shorts (until they got put away with the summer clothes). She will put something on, and then the next minute she has something else on because she didn't like it. Too long, doesn't like the ribbons, etc. This happened with her picture outfit. When we went to Wal-mart she said she wanted that one. I asked her "Are you sure you like it?" Yes, Mom. "Jinettie, Are you sure you like it? You will wear it again. " Oh, Yes Mom! I will. So, I bought it. Right after pictures-- she came home and took it off. A few days later it was her B-day. I tried to get her to wear it-- nope. She decided she wanted to give it to her cousin Chloe. I told her that was great, but she was paying me for it. So, I went and got her B-day money she had just gotten in the mail, and took that and she had to dig for 2 more dollars. No big deal-- she gave it away.
It has been an on going thing and she gets the cutest clothes from my niece, but doesn't wear them. About a month ago, before church, she asked Dad to come pick out an outfit for her to wear. He picked out a cute skirt and shirt. She fussed and cried and wanted to take it off. Pretty much through a big tantrum. So, Clay went and got some bags and started emptying drawers. WOW--- you would have thought he was torchering her. She was left with about 2 of everything-- 2 shirts, 2 pants, 2 pairs of shoes. She was really worried that Dad was going to take it to DI. She kept coming to me and asking if he was going to. I just kept telling her she had to talk to her Dad about it. We should have held off for a week not letting her know, because as soon as Clay told her that she could buy something back one a week if she earned her money. Her reply, with a smile, " Oh, I was hoping that's what was going to happen." He then went on to tell her he is like the DI and she will have to pay him to get it back. That is what she told everyone about her Clothes--- "Yeah, my Dad is like the DI, but he is not really the DI."
I don't know which one it was harder on, Clay or Jinettie, but they both made it through the day. It was quite funny to see Jinettie go to put some PJ's on and realize she didn't have many. So, she has still been earning her money back and at a quarter a piece she can buy things back. She earns about a dollar a week--- so after tithing. She can only buy back 3 things. Not sure it has sunk in yet because once all of her short sleeve shirts are dirty-- she claims she has nothing to wear (even though there are long sleeve shirts sitting in her drawer). Hopefully through all of this, she will learn to be grateful for what she has. It does leave for a lot of laundry for me to do.
Oh the teaching is rewarding!
